J.M. Powell is a Mississippian by birth, and a Tennessean by adoption. He and his wife make their home in Nashville, Tennessee, where he serves as consultant to the Restoration Library at David Lipscomb College.He has been a student of the Restoration Movement for over 40 years. His research has taken him to New England, as well as to England, Scotland and Ireland. He has lectured on the subject throughout the United States, and has written books and periodicals on many facets of Restoration history.Lubbock Christian College conveyed on him the LLD degree for his contribution to Restoration studies.Among the numerous congregations for whom he has preached are the Druid Hills Church, Atlanta, Georgia; the Fourth Avenue Church, Franklin, Tennessee; the Jackson Avenue Church, Memphis, Tennessee; and the Central Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
